Fabulous sunny day for the RYYC sponsored walk to raise funds for Bridlington and Flamborough RNLI. Half-way stop for refreshments at North Landing (Flamborough’s base) before walking on the cliff tops to the Clubhouse.
The Commodore, Vice Commodore and Rear Commodore pictured at the completion of the walk before joining the rest of the members for lunch.
This event has been revived after a number of years having previously been a regular feature on the club calendar. This should have taken place earlier in the season, but the winter bad weather put paid to this.
43 members and friends enjoyed a sunny day walking from the RSPB centre at Bempton Cliffs to the Club House by the harbour. Halfway refreshments were provided by the Flamborough Lifeboat crew and family at South Landing. Here we saw the recovery of their RIB onto its launching trailer with the rescue helicopter hovering overhead.
There was a timely reminder of how important their services are with the wreckage of a yacht pulled up on the beach. The owner was the perfect example of how not to go sailing – no training, no insurance and apparently bought the boat off e-bay! Obviously not a member of the RYYC. He had run aground just off Flamborough, safely got himself ashore a ‘walked off’. It must be remembered that the ‘Lifeboats’ are all crewed by volunteers and are a charity funded by donations.
Thank you to all who took part.
