Return to Racing

Sunday May the 9th saw a welcome return to Yacht Racing in Bridlington Bay when both Dinghy and Cruiser sections of the Royal Yorkshire Yacht Club came together to compete for the Top Dog trophy. This event has been the regular start to a season sailing and is always eventful. The forecast included some strong winds and it looked as if the 5 catamarans might find the two round course challenging. However they all successfully completed the first lap in around half an hour leaving the larger slower boats behind. The second round saw lighter winds set in and the faster boats were able reach the finish first leaving the cruisers to cope with falling winds and adverse tides. So this year saw a clean sweep for the Darts. Top Dog was Matt Exon,. Kevin Porter second. Jo Franks third and a commendable fourth place for young Ellis Stonehouse. The open air prizegiving was held on the harbour pontoons. It is hoped that this will be the start of a full seasons events.
